South River and Surrounding Area

South River is nestled in the beautiful Almaguin Highlands, 40 minutes north of Huntsville on Highway #11.  This is the unspoiled beauty of the Near North- rolling hills and breathtaking views, pristine lakes, private and provincial parks, excellent fishing, miles of dedicated hiking and cycling trails, sandy beaches and friendly people.  You’ll find a balance of untouched wilderness and the amenities you need to visit and enjoy Canada’s real wonderland.

South River is the paddling entrance to Algonquin Park.  Thousands of miles of waterways throughout Algonquin Park are accessible from South River.  Local wilderness outfitters can supply you with everything you need.

South River is the home of the “Forgotten Trails”, our beautiful hiking and cycling trail system.  Relive history as you travel the pathways taken by the earliest settlers to the area.

South River is a small village with the wilderness still at it’s doorstep.  This hospitable community is the hub of activities encompassing two Provincial Parks (Algonquin and Mikisew) and hundreds of small lakes.

The South River and Area Visitor Information Centre is located just south of the village on Highway # 11 and is open Year round
(telephone # is 705-386-0005).
